Raj Mahal Palace Hotel and Resort lies on the embankments of serene River Banas in the small town of Tonk (100 km from Jaipur) in Rajasthan. Renowned for its "nawabi" etiquettes and courtly elegance, besides historic mansions, colonial monuments and magnificent mosques, Tonk is also known as the "Lucknow of Rajasthan". The grand Rajmahal Palace, earlier known as Raawatji-ka-Bagh, was built by Sawai Jai Singh II in 1798 who named it after his favorite queen, Maharani Chandra Kumar Ranawatji. Backed by 350 years of rich Rajput history, the palace was finally refurbished as a deluxe heritage hotel in 1980 and renamed as Rajmahal Palace Hotel and Resort. The hotel is ideally located on the Jaipur-Kota highway, nearly 170 km from Jaipur.
